8/25/08

We've just received the sad news that Charlie's Entertainment Center in Norway will be closing its doors forever in the early Fall (Charlie thinks he could make it to the end of September). SUNDOG will be making its final Norway performances on September 19th and 20th...

Charlie will be running all kind of "crazy drink specials" so they could sell off the existing stock of liquor and beer, so c'mon and party with Charlie and the SUNDOG crew one last time!!!

For those of you who are curious, SUNDOG has performed at Charlie's 44 times previously, going all the way back to February of 2003. We've had some really great nights and HUGE crowds, plus some really bad nights (that's right, FUCK YOU Oxford Plains 250!!!)... Through it all, we've always maintained a great business relationship and friendship that has lasted a long time. After playing clubs in Maine for almost 15 years, we can definitely say that Charlie is truely one of the nicest guys in the business and we wish him the best with whatever is next!

I know it's a bit early to be making plans for later on in the year, but SUNDOG has just confirmed NEW YEARS EVE at Club OTR in Augusta!!!

Also, SUNDOG will be hosting OTR's gigantic Halloween costume party on Friday, October 31st!

It is finally confirmed that SUNDOG will be appearing at the Bath Heritage Days festival on July 5th on the main stage from 4 - 6 PM!!! This free show in the heart of Bath will not dissapoint! Click HERE for more details.

This past Friday (February 29th) at Cuddy's Tavern, SUNDOG performed one single FOUR-HOUR set of music with no breaks!!! That's right, 9PM until 1AM, continuous music, no breaks!

Former SUNDOG members Diamond Dave Osborne (currently performing with Smoked Salmon) and Bill Irish (currently performing with Educating Einstein) were on hand to help out with the efforts. Bob Rox was also in attendence but did not perform, due to the fact that he is slowly recovering from a freak lawn-mowing accident that involved a twister mat, two gallons of Mazola cooking oil and a midget...

MIA were Melanie Huard and Robbie Doucette.

Special thanks to Bill McKenna from Ruckus for filling in on guitar for Doug for a few songs, while Doug took a well-deserved piss break!

Now we can definitely say that SUNDOG performed one of the longest sets in Maine club history!

On Leap Year Night (February 29th), SUNDOG will be reuniting all five of its former members (with the current five!) at Cuddy's Tavern in Brunswick for a marathon set of music from 9PM until 12:45AM. We'll be playing tunes from our current setlist and a few old favorites that we haven't played in quite some time (some songs, literally, a decade!). Former members that will be on hand to play:

Robbie Dewset (Vocals)

Bobby Rox will even be in the house for a while, but will only be able to stop by for a little bit due to a conflict, so it's unlikely he'll be playing, but hey, at least he'll be showing up!

Either way, be sure to c'mon and check out SUNDOG do something that we've never done before! After all, a leap year night on a weekend doesn't happen all that often!

We are sad to inform everyone that one of Central Maine's coolest club is closing it's doors. Wiseguys (located in Waterville) will be closing at the end of the month, so obviously all of our dates have been cancelled. Best of luck to Mike, Nick and the Wiseguys crew!!!

SUNDOG has a new member!!! Attached below is Marc's announcement from the SUNDOG MySpace page:

All of us are pleased to announce the addition of keyboardist/vocalist GERALD BRANN to the SUNDOG lineup!

Gerald brings to the band 25 years of experience performing as a professional musician and has a degree in Jazz piano from the University of Maine. He's played in the bands "The Barking Spiders", "Ultimate Sin" (Ozzy tribute), and "The Deal", but he's probably best known as "Elton" in the Elton John tribute act "Yellow Brick Road". He is considered one of the premiere Elton John tribute musicians in North America and has performed throughout the United States and Canada. Don't worry, nobody has left the band. It's just that what was once four is now five. Gerald has toured with us tons of times as a sound tech, so we've already tested his road stamina. Marc will continue as the main lead vocalist with Chad also singing a handful of songs every night. Bringing Gerald into the band broadens our ability to deliver to you a great show and gives us the ability to play a ton of songs that we've always wanted to play, but couldn't because of keyboard limitations. We're a pretty tight ship over here as far as who we let into the inner circle. Bringing in a fifth member was never even on the radar screen until we stumbled across Gerald. Individually Marc, Chad, and Gerald with their pipes and stage experience could be front men for almost any band in the northeast. SUNDOG now has all three. This means a better show for YOU. We're very excited about our new addition and we hope you'll continue to come check us out as you have for years. Through the grapevine I've heard that Gerald has been making great strides at rehearsals. (We don't actually ever rehearse together as a band; we hire a temp agency to do it for us). So as far as I know Gerald could be making his debut as early as this weekend at Cuddy's in Brunswick and Wise Guys in Waterville. Details to follow.

I want to thank you all for continuing to come hang with us for all the years we've been at this. We cherish all of our friends greatly, and hope that you'll continue to support us as we make this new "fuel-injected" transition. I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed!!!

Sorry to inform you that both remaining 2007 dates at The Shak in Rumford have been cancelled by their management for reasons unknown (although we'll speculate that it's just becuase the people operating the club just don't give a fuck about the bands that they've booked). Given their past track record at pulling this shit, we're kind of glad that it happened with a few weeks notice and not the night of the gig.

Hey folks... Just got word that 2 of the clubs that had booked SUNDOG have permanently closed. The Tillbury Town Tavern in Gardiner and Right Proper Charlie's Pub in Portland have both closed their doors for good. I spoke to both clubs yesterday and they are closing due to lack of interest in live music (sad day indeed).

Unfortunately, the November 10th and December 2nd shows will not happen...

Well after about a month-long break, SUNDOG has finally got back at it, returning to "Cuddy's" in Brunswick, on Friday the 11th.

But that's not the big news...

Did you think that was the big news? Did you? Huh?

Chill out dudes... Like WTF?!?

There's been yet another lineup change in SUNDOG. From now on the bass guitar will be held down by Chad Dacus, one of the founding members of SUNDOG waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the mid 90's! Chad has played rhythm guitar, bass guitar and has done both lead and background vocals... I wonder if he plays drums? Hmmmm, he'd better not, or I'm out of a job.

Anyways, we're all excited as a duck in water (pig in shit, Douggie with a Kit-Kat bar and milk) that Chad has returned to the group after a 5 year hiatus!

We'd also like to add that we wish Bill Irish all the best of luck in the future. He's an amazing talent and a great guy, and we're going to miss his presence every weekend, both on the stage and off. He's been a blast to be around these past few years, and certainly helped bring the band to a higher level.

The SUNDOG website is finally online! So my HTML skills aren't the best (OK, they suck), but at least we are finally online (loosely translated: it's about damn time SUNDOG joined the 21st century). Well, anyway, grab yourself a beer, put on some tunes and feel free to look around. I'll be trying to post as much SUNDOG content as possible, as often as I can...
